A new milestone in the reintroduction of European tree frogs
Great news for local biodiversity: on Tuesday, July 29, a total of 613 young European tree frogs, along with 220 tadpoles, were released into their natural habitat at the Harchies Marshes, located between Mons and Tournai.
Carefully raised at Pairi Daiza, these bright green amphibians have now returned to the wetlands that are naturally suited to them. With their small size (4 to 5 cm) and suction pads on their toes, they are true little acrobats, able to climb nimbly onto leaves.
This reintroduction is part of a conservation program launched in 2022 by Natagora, our trusted partner in the field. The Pairi Daiza Foundation plays a key role in the project by giving these frogs the best possible care during their early life stages, in order to maximize their chances of survival once released into the wild.
Each frog’s song echoing through the marshes is a sign of an ecosystem coming back to life.
