Helping Bernardus, the Monk Vulture born in Pairi Daiza, to spread his wings in the wild
Born in Pairi Daiza in 2015, in the shadow of the Saint Bernard Tower, the Monk Vulture named Bernardus was released at the age of four months in the Verdon (France). By giving him the opportunity to join his wild counterparts, we have contributed to the endangered species to recolonize the Southern Alps. A much-needed reinforcement for this bird whose population is threatened by poisoning (through ingestion of poisons intended for foxes and wolves) and habitat degradation by human activities. This project was carried out in collaboration with the League for the Protection of Birds Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur (LPO PACA). The Pairi Daiza Foundation contributed €10,000 to this cause.
