Mammal
The Lowland tapir
Tapirs have limited eyesight but a highly developed sense of smell. Using their prehensile snout, they grab leaves and eat fallen fruits, dispersing the seeds in the process. They are excellent swimmers and are considered an “umbrella species,” as their large territories help protect many other animals and plants in the region.
