A historical arrival in Pairi Daiza

Wednesday 14 May marks a major first in the history of animal conservation: three golden monkeys have just arrived at Pairi Daiza.

Native to the Qinling mountain range in Shaanxi province, these sacred primates are much rarer than their cousins in Sichuan. Their population, estimated at less than 4,000 individuals, lives in an isolated and protected habitat, making them almost invisible to the rest of the world.

This historic arrival has been made possible thanks to an unprecedented scientific partnership with the China Wildlife Conservation Association (CWCA), strengthening the already close links between Pairi Daiza and China, particularly around the protection of the Giant Pandas.

A remarkable habitat for an extraordinary species

With the arrival of the Golden Monkeys born in the Giant Panda Research Centre in China’s Qinling Mountains, Pairi Daiza has confirmed its major role in raising awareness and preserving the world’s biodiversity.

A unique habitat has been specially designed for them: over 600 m² inspired by the Qinling forests, with climbing structures, footbridges, an 8-metre wide river and traditional Chinese pavilions. Every detail has been designed to combine animal welfare, natural immersion and visitor experience.
