You will travel on our trains, pulled by several authentic steam locomotives. These historic machines are maintained and operated by true enthusiasts who dedicate their skills daily to preserving this valuable railway heritage.
The different locomotives :
- The locomotive LAS Ty 3297
The steam locomotive “LAS 3297” was built in 1954 in Chrzanów, Poland. Originally intended for forest railways, it was eventually used for transporting beets in a sugar factory. It was recovered by a Belgian association and later acquired by Pairi Daiza, where it was fully restored in England. Since entering service in 2015, it has been running through the Park and is maintained by the Pairi Daiza Steam Railway teams.
- The locomotive « Brigadelok » HF 1238
The steam locomotive “Brigadelok” was built in 1917 in Germany to supply the front lines during the First World War. It was captured by the British and later sent to Mozambique for transporting sugar cane. After being restored by an English collector, it was acquired by Pairi Daiza in working condition. Since entering service in 2015, it has been maintained by the Pairi Daiza Steam Railway and regularly takes part in train rides around the Park.
- The locomotive Henschel KUK RIIIc 426
Built in 1917 in Germany, this 10.5-ton steam locomotive first served on the Austro-Hungarian military railways before continuing its career in a quarry in Italy. It was restored by Rail-Rebecq-Rognon in Belgium but was later taken out of service before being acquired by Pairi Daiza. After a complete overhaul in England, it was brought back into service in 2016 and has since regularly pulled trains through the Park.
- The locomotive LAS Ty 3471
Built in 1957 in Poland, the steam locomotive LAS 3471 initially served in coal mines until 1978, after which it was used as an industrial boiler. After passing through the hands of several owners, including a railway park in Berlin, it briefly returned to service in Poland. Pairi Daiza acquired the locomotive in 2017, had it fully restored, and put it into service in the park in 2019. Since then, it has regularly pulled the trains that take you around the park.
Preservation of the heritage
With its authentic coal-fired steam trains, Pairi Daiza is committed to preserving global railway and industrial heritage. These locomotives pay tribute to a time when Wallonia—then the industrial heart of the country—drew much of its wealth from mining.
By operating these historic locomotives, Pairi Daiza aims to revive this essential chapter of regional history, while offering visitors an immersive, sensory experience that captures the unique atmosphere of narrow-gauge railways from the past.
Among these heritage treasures is a truly exceptional locomotive: the “Couillet 1318”, built in 1900 by the Société Métallurgique de Couillet, a flagship of Walloon industry at the time. This iconic machine, acquired by Pairi Daiza, underwent meticulous restoration in the Park’s own workshops. It stands as a symbol of both Belgian technical expertise and the Park’s dedication to preserving rare witnesses of industrial history.
Through this initiative, Pairi Daiza invites visitors of all ages on a genuine journey through time.
