Mammal
The Kirk’s Dik-dik
Kirk’s dik-dik is one of the smallest antelopes. Nocturnal, discreet, and shy, it mainly hides in the bushes to escape predators. When startled, it flees by making a series of zigzag jumps while emitting sounds such as “zik-zik” or “dik-dik.” Monogamous and faithful, the male and female mark their territory through a process called the “defecation ceremony,” which helps the male maintain the territorial defense.
