Welcome to the Baby Agoutis!
This July brought wonderful news in the Oasis: three Agoutis have joined the family! The first baby was born on July 4th, followed by two more on July 26th. The newborns are doing well, and although we do not yet know their sex, they are growing up alongside their parents in their Oasis territory, where you can now observe them.
The Agouti is a discreet inhabitant of the tropical forest. It is a small rodent native to South and Central America, often compared to a squirrel because of its appearance and agility. Its slender silhouette, golden-brown fur, and behavior—both curious and shy—make it a fascinating and endearing animal.
As a herbivore, the agouti plays an important role in forest regeneration by carrying and burying seeds, which it sometimes forgets… thus helping with plant dispersal.
