Koi Karp
A highly colourful fish.
As a result of selections for thousands of years, initially in China, then in Japan and elsewhere in Asia, the Koi Carp is a resistant and peaceful fish (it is not aggressive to others). Unlike other fish, Koi Carps preserve their wild characteristics and resist diseases better.
As an herbivore, the Koi Carp likes sandy and muddy bottoms, seeking its food by means of barbels (“moustache”).
Selection by man has created some highly colourful fish, some of which are much sought-after and are sold at astronomic-price: sometimes for as much as 200,000 €! According to Wikipedia, the record price is held by a Koi Carp sold in the year 2008 for 347,000 €!
The higher the temperature of the water, the more active and voracious is the Koi Carp. Below 6°C, it goes into a kind of hibernation in such a way that this fish is perfectly adapted to our European climates, similar to those from many areas of Eastern Asia (China, Korea and Japan).
These beautiful fish can be as heavy as 20 kg.
