A baby elephant born at Pairi Daiza

Pairi Daiza is proud to announce the birth of a baby elephant!

Farina (11), one of our Asian elephants, gave birth to a girl at 3:23 a.m. Everything went well and mother and daughter are both fine, although the birth came 12 days earlier than expected. It’s Farina second baby but the first to be born in our park. The father is Nikolai (21), who stays in Hannover Zoo. Farina is part of a family of five – now six – Asian elephants that arrived in het park from Hannover. She was pregnant when she arrived.

Pairi Daiza now has eleven Asian elephants. They are endangered in the wild, so the birth of this elephant is very important. Pairi Daiza has been actively involved in the survival programmes for Asian elephants.
