The red soil is everywhere, just like in the Red Centre, the desert that hosts Ayers Rock where the religious rock formation seems to emerge from nothing. The immense aviary accommodate groups of playful parrots and parakeets. A little further you come face to face with the cassowary as they look back at you expressionlessly. An entire forest of tree ferns, 4 to 8 m high, follows the black boys and grass trees - greater alienation is virtually unimaginable. They act as shady resting places for the giant kangaroos.
