In the world of the Lagoon Madidi (*) is a 1,000 m2 island where the squirrel monkeys enjoy complete freedom, without any obstruction, to charm both big and small visitors. The fact is that they are scared of water and thus remain on the island itself. Madidi has rich vegetation, which attracts many insects, and it is also covered with bamboo, the shoots of which is real delicacy for the local inhabitants.
(*) Madidi is the name of a national park in Bolivia which covers an area of 1,895,750 hectares and includes an astonishing wealth of plants and animals. In 1995 this region was saved from the floods through a reservoir that was put in place to power a planned hydroelectric plant.
